Uncapped Keaton Jennings and Liam Dawson get a call up from the English side that is playing against the Indians. Notably, Keaton Jennings is the son of former South African cricketer Ray Jennings, will be filling in the boots of Haseeb Hammed (apparently) and Liam Dawson has been called in as a replacement for Zafar Ansari.
Keaton Jennings’ hard work has finally paid off, as the County Player of the Year 2016 winner gets his maiden call up from the National side, whilst Dawson had already made his ODI and T20I debut earlier this year.
Keaton has been in an amazing form in the County and scored 1,548 runs for Durham at a stellar average of 64.50. Keaton has represented South Africa at the under-19 level and has also led the South African under-19 side briefly.
Zafar Ansari has been ruled out of the remaining test matches due to a shoulder injury and hence, Liam Dawson made the cut into the squad. Its not sure as now, if he will get a chance to squeeze into the playing 11 as he is highly likely to stay on the bench for the next two games.
Alastair Cook and his English side have already handed an unassailable lead to the Indians and will be eyeing to give their best performance in the next few games and end the series on a high. Injuries have been a huge setback for Cook, who has been struggling to find a proper combination.
Just after the Mohali Test came to an end, Alastair Cook announced that Hameed would be flying back. Hameed has been in great nick for them, scoring the highest runs for England(219 runs) in the series. It will be interesting to see if the inform Keaton can get a place in the 11 and prove himself on Indian pitches.
