There is a lot of buzz going on for the past couple of days after the selection dilemma through which Indian cricket team is going. First crowd’s favourite Gautam Gambhir’s execution from the team and now Parthiv Patel’s surprise addition.
But Indian head coach Anil Kumble says that it is a well-calculated move. Kumble is obviously an intelligent person on and off the field so he must have seen something in Patel which has given him the eligibility of playing for his national side again ahead of other domestic wicket keepers.
“I think it’s unfortunate that Saha is missing out in this Test match. He had a strain on the final day of the Test match. He was obviously in the starting the lineup for this but the scans yesterday showed that there was a little bit of tendonitis, that’s why it was better that we gave him a break from this Test match. Parthiv has been really consistent, both in his keeping as well as batting. That’s why Parthiv was chosen,” Kumble said justifying Parthiv’s selection.
Indian wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha’s current form is satisfactory as he is handling the lower order quite well and scoring some useful and handy runs at the lower order. But his body is stressed and he obviously needs some rest. And no other wicket-keepers are as much experienced as Patel at current to replace him for a match.
“Yes, Rishabh has certainly shown the exuberance and what a young cricketer can bring in. He has shown a lot of his batting skills. He has obviously got a lot of runs this season in the domestic circuit. But Parthiv was chosen for his keeping skills as well, keeping and his experience. Regarding Dinesh, at the moment I don’t think Dinesh is keeping wickets for Tamil Nadu, and I am not sure why that is the case. But at the moment, from what I gather, he has not been keeping wickets for Tamil Nadu,” Kumble added about other wicket keeping options.
The third test match is going to be played between 26th and 30th of this month. Mostly it will be a balanced pitch which will assist both spinners and fast bowlers. So it will be interesting to see who gets the upper hand in this match, home favourites India or brave visitors England.
