Recently in an interview, Cook said that he would captain England for two months or maybe a year which raised doubts on his role in the current test format.

Root, the Vice-captain of England in tests said that his skipper is still a great leader and backs him to lead the side for more years to come.

“I think he is pretty set on captaining for a few years to come and I hope he does because I think he is a brilliant leader and I have really enjoyed playing under him” Root said.

Root also added that “You could put a lot of blame on Cooky but actually it is the responsibility of the batters to make those big scores. You can blame whoever you want, but we have to take responsibility for our own game”.

Root also expressed the current situation of Cook who left his family just after the birth of their new child and also said that he is happy with the way he is batting at the moment.

“I think he is coping all right, he is very professional and you don’t really get much from him in that respect. I imagine it must be quite tough being away from a new child and family and everything”.

England are currently trailing by 2-0 in the five match test series against India and are training hard to level the series by yielding the result in favour of them for the next couple of games.
