England are always strong at Test cricket. Fortune of the match, which was played in Rajkot, appeared to have swung in English favour as they won the toss and opted to bat first. In the first Innings, England mounted 537 runs in 159.3 overs. J Root, M Ali and B Stokes smashed their centuries which helped the team to yield runs against India.
All rounder Ravindra Jadeja grabbed 3 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 2.8. M Shami, Umesh Yadav and R Ashwin took two wickets each.
In response to the huge total, India gave a befitting reply by scoring 488 runs in 162 over with the help of two hundreds from Vijay and C Pujara. Yet England had a lead of 49 runs over India. In the second innings of England, they again displayed good batting and punched 260 runs for 3 wickets and allowed India to play. India needed 310 runs to win.
India, apparently, did not play to clinch the match but to draw. Gambhir disappointed by getting dismissed off C Woakes at an early stage. He scored null in the second innings. India fell in trouble when four regular batsmen went back to pavilion on 71 runs.
However, from this stage, Kohli along with his fellow batters firmly withstood the aggressive bowling attack of England and led the team into a draw. India scored 172/6 in the second innings.
Moeen Ali claimed the man of the match Award for his all round performance. He smashed a century in the very first innings and took three crucial wickets.
