Ben Duckett breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record vs Australia in the Champions Trophy with Highest score

Ben Duckett has scripted history in England’s first match of the 2025 Champions Trophy and set the tone of the tournament right. The 30-year-old played a phenomenal knock of 165 runs in 143 deliveries against Australia at Gaddafi Stadium, and with that, he has broken multiple records.

The English batsman now not only holds the record for the highest individual score by an English batter in the Champions Trophy, which was previously held by Joe Root, but also broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record. He now has the highest individual score in a Champions Trophy match ever, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record. Moreover, Ben Duckett also broke Tendulkar’s record of scoring the highest individual runs in an ICC ODI Event match against the mighty Aussies. Sachin Tendulkar’s 141-run knock against Australia in Dhaka back in 1998 held this record before today.

Thanks to Ben Duckett’s performance, England also set the record for the highest total in the Champions Trophy’s history with a whopping 351 runs. Australia will have to break the record again in the same night if they are to win this match from here, which seems to be a very difficult task. Joe Root also performed well tonight, scoring 68 runs in 78 deliveries.

England have been able to mark their arrival in the tournament in style. Especially after being whitewashed in the ODI series against India 0-3 just before this tournament, this will surely boost their confidence. The English side is now one of the favorites in the Champions Trophy without a doubt.
