Australian batting all-rounder Grace Harris achieved a sensational feat last night as she became the first Australian player to pick up a hat trick in the Women’s Premier League. The 31-year-old, who plays for UP Warriorz in the WPL, achieved the unexpected feat in their match against Delhi Capitals, which was played at the M. Chinnaswami stadium.
After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals opted to bowl first. Unfortunately, that was the only thing that went in their favor that night. In the first innings, the Capitals had still done a decent job in the beginning with the ball. Sadly for them, Chinelle Henry came in the end and played a fierce knock of 62 off 23 to save UP Warriorz’ day. Thanks to her knock, they reached a respectable total of 177 runs, which was defendable enough.

In the second innings again, Delhi Capitals got a good start, thanks to Shafali Varma and Jemmimah Rodrigues. However, after Kranti Gaud picked up the big wickets of these two, the match opened up and UP Warriorz started to struggle.
In the 20th over, UP Warriors had 3 wickets in hand and they needed an impossible 34 runs to win the match. It was then that Grace Harris showed her magic. She picked up the wickets of Niki Prasad, Arunghati Roy and Minnu Mani in the first three deliveries and completed her hat trick in sensational fashion. With that, she also bowled the opposition out and won the match for the UP Warriorz. Although they had won the match anyways, Grace Harris put the last nail in Delhi’s coffin in style.
This was UP’s first victory in the WPL this season in three matches. With this, they have now moved up to the fourth position on the points table.
