Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz just had a nerve-wracking super over to decide the winner in the 9th match of the ongoing Women’s Premier League and it was worth watching for all cricket enthusiasts out there. After a hard-fought battle, the defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore ended up losing the match as UP Warriorz pulled off a clutch performance in the super over. However, it was actually the last over where UP Warriorz completely flipped the script and went super saiyan mode.

UP Warriorz won the toss in tonight’s match that was played at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium and opted to field first. Coming in to bat first, Royal Challengers lost their captain Smriti Mandhana early on in the match after she had scored just 9 runs. However, Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Ellyse Perry too reins of the innings from there and performed brilliantly. Their partnership scored the chunk of runs for RCB and ultimately helped them reach a great total of 180. After their dismissal, the other RCB batters all scored single digit runs.

On the contrary, the UP Warriorz had no batter who singlehandedly carried them. There was no big knock in the second inning, but they took it to a position where they needed 18 runs in the last over to win which was a tough ask. However, it was then that UP’s Sophie Ecclestone pulled off a performance written in the stars. She hit two sixes in a row and then a four against RCB’s Renuka Singh Thakur. She then took a single and gave the strike to Kranti Goud who just needed one run in the last ball to win the match. However, Renuka made a comeback and picked up Kranti’s wicket in the last delivery, which was also UP’s last wicket. Thus it was a draw and the match moved on to Super over where UP had to bat first.
What a game! After a brilliant last-over effort from Ecclestone, Renuka Singh kept her cool, taking us to the first Super Over of WPL!#WPLOnJioStar 👉 Royal Challengers Bengaluru v UP Warriorz | LIVE NOW on Star Sports 1, Star Sports 1 Hindi & Sports 18 Khel pic.twitter.com/xAGAdScuZz

UP Warriorz were able to score 8 runs and it was a pretty winnable total for RCB, who sent Richa Ghosh and Smriti Mandhana. However, it was Sophie Eccleston’s day and even with the ball in hand, she restricted RCB to just 4 runs and UP ended up winning the match in style.
