West Indies Masters took on England Masters at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium in the 5th match of the ongoing edition of the International Masters League. The England Masters won the toss and opted to field first. Coming in to bat first, the West Indies Masters were off to a great start, thanks to the knocks of openers Dwayne Smith and Chris Gayle. They scored 35 off 25 and 39 off 19, respectively and did their job of giving the West Indies a solid base to build upon.
However, after their dismissal, the next two batters, namely Kirk Edwards and Chadwick Walton, could not score many runs and both scored 9 runs each. However, Narsingh Deonarine then came in and took reins of the match. His 35 off 29, accompanied by Ashley Nurse’s fiery 29 off 13, finished their innings in style and took them to a total of 179 which was more than defendable on this pitch.
During the first innings, we saw Monty Panesar do flex some of his Bhangra moves on the field during the 18th over when the stadium played Punjabi music. A clip of the same was posted by Colorscineplex and it has been loved by cricket fans alike.
England then came in to chase the total and although they played well, they lacked the spark in their batting lineup which was needed to chase total and in the end, they fell short of just 8 runs. The England Masters were able to score 171 runs in their 20 overs and they lost the match. Chris Schofield, who scored 32 off 26 was their highest scorer for the night.
