New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips is hands down one of the best fielders in the world right now and he has proved it time and again in the 2025 Champions Trophy. In the group stage match against India, he took a stunning catch to dismiss Virat Kohli that led to the world naming him the new ‘Superman’ of cricket. This time in the final again, Phillips has taken one more sensational catch to dismiss Shubman Gill, which was an important wicket of the night.
New Zealand lost a couple of wickets early on in the first inning, but they ended up their innings on a good note, thanks to Michael Bracewell and Daryl Mitchell. They were able to put up a respectable total of 252 runs. Coming in to bat, India were off to a great start and in fact, the opening partnership of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill could have scored a lot more runs had it not been for Glenn Phillips’ stunning catch that dismissed Glenn Phillips.
He was able to score a total of 31 runs in 50 deliveries. After him, Virat Kohli also got dismissed cheaply after scoring just one run, following which, in form, Rohit Sharma lost his wicket after scoring 76 runs. Things are still pretty much in favour of India though and they can win this match pretty easily from here. However, the amount of surety that they could have had if Rohit Sharma was still on the pitch would have been great for the Blues.
