England will think long while posting a total against India, says former Captain

The Team India has simply outclassed the hosts England on the tour so far. Team India has already won the T20I series 2-1 against England and now looks absolute dominating force in the One-dayers. The style in which team India has dominated the first ODI has surely put England on the back-foot.

Former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar says the host England will have to be on top of their game to give India some fight. India chased down the target of 269 runs within 41 overs. What was even more astonishing that they won the game by 8 wickets. Against one of the strongest batting line-up, England would have to play their top game to beat India.

India’s performance will give England a plenty of think-tanks

In the column he writes for Times of India, former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar says England would be wondering what total they should consider safe. “India’s clinical performance in the first One-Day International at Nottingham will give England think-tank to ponder about for the next two days. On a pitch where the average score in the last five years has been in excess of 300, to be bundled out for 268 and that too without two of India’s most experienced bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah will make England think long and hard about how to go about putting up a challenging total”, writes Sunil Gavaskar.

The ‘little master’, as Sunil Gavaskar was called in his days that Kuldeep Yadav is one of the strongest contenders to make it to the test squad. “The other person who has made a strong case for himself is Kuldeep Yadav. More than the Indian batting it is how to tackle the left-arm wrist spinner that will stress the England think-tank. Picking six wickets in a limited-overs game is akin to scoring 150-plus and like Rohit’s two centuries Kuldeep has two fivers that will make the selectors give him the nod for the Tests”, further adds Sunil Gavaskar who was the first player ever to score 10,000 runs in the test cricket.

Team India has surely given the hosts England plenty of things to worry about. If the batting of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli was not enough, they are now rattled by the spin attack of Kuldeep Yadav and Yauzvendra Chahal. England surely needs to be on top of their game to give India a serious challenge.
