Kings XI Punjab had a forgettable day when they played against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday. Winning and losing is all part of the game but the manner in which KXIP lost the game was something totally unexpected.
The team scored their lowest total of this season when they got out on 88 runs. The openers Chris Gayle and KL Rahul looked in good touch but as soon as Umesh Yadav removed both of them in one over, the batting of Kings XI Punjab simply fall apart. Kings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin termed his team’s performance as “problem with the batting”.
We have a problem with our batting, says Ashwin
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ravichandran Ashwin says the team is not one of the top champion sides. “We have a problem with our batting. We are not one of the top champion sides to be very honest, we are one of those sides that punched above our weight in the first half of the competition”, says Ravichandran Ashwin.
We might have won one or two more games, further adds Ashwin
Speaking further, the Indian spinner says he expected a poor performance but this was way below par. To be very precise, I did expect to find ourselves in such a situation, but not this much; probably thought we might have won one or two more games and probably reached 14 or 16 points”, further adds Ravichandran Ashwin who has taken a total of 311 wickets for India in just 57 test matches.
With the loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore, not only Ashwin’s Kings XI Punjab slipped to the fifth position, there net run rate is now in minus. The team has lost two back to back games. In the game against Kolkata Knight Riders played last week, Kings XI Punjab conceded the maximum runs in this season of the IPL. The team in two matches have lost key net run rate and that could be the decisive factor in their chances of making it to the playoffs.
