Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni guided Chennai Super Kings to their third IPL title. Chennai Super Kings made the comeback to the IPL after serving the ban of two years and MS Dhoni with his leadership took them to the title.

One of the main reasons why Dhoni’s efforts were hailed more than ever was that he managed to bring the best out from his teammates, some of them who were in their 30s. Players like Shane Watson, Harbhajan Singh were well past their best years, yet Dhoni managed to bring the best out of them. Dhoni himself was in great touch with the bat this season. Dhoni admits that he knew he needs to focus on the fitness.

Batting down the order was like quicksand, says MS Dhoni

As per reports in PTI, Mahendra Singh Dhoni says he wanted to bat up the order. “Fitness part started a few years back, when I left Test cricket, when it comes to this IPL started the day we sat to make our team. I was sure in my mind that I wanted to bat up the order, because with age, me batting down the order was like quicksand”, says Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni further admits that he wanted to win the games for the team while coming up the order. “I wanted to make it sure that I wanted to take the responsibility of winning the game, but I was coming so down the order, that I was not giving time to myself. So it was more like quicksand, the more I flutter, the deeper I would go. So I said I want to make a team where we bat deep, that gives me a chance to bat up the order, and to me up the order doesn’t mean I want to bat at 3, 4 or 5, it’s the number of overs”, further quotes Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

It was the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni that brought the best out of all the teammates in Chennai Super Kings. MS Dhoni assigned the role for each and every player in the squad and was clinical in decision making that helped Chennai Super Kings win the IPL title.
