England’s national selector Ed Smith is in all praise of wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler. The right-handed batsman who is in a fine form with Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018, has been recalled for England’s test squad in the first test against Pakistan.

Although Jos Buttler played the last test match 18 months ago, Ed Smith is confident that Buttler recent good form in the IPL can be taken forward to the test format as well. Ed Smith made it clear that Jonny Bairstow will still hold the wicket-keeping gloves for England.

Ed Smith explains why Buttler has been included in the squad

As per quotes in AFP, national selector Ed Smith says the main motive of picking Jos Buttler is to bring more run-scorers in the team. “The way we wanted to structure the side was to get the key run scorers in those positions — Joe at three, Jonny at five. We feel it’s the right thing, at the right time with the right player. It was a very strong feeling that we wanted to invest opportunity in Jos”, says Ed Smith.

With this inclusion, Jos Buttler will play a specialist batsman on the seventh spot of England’s team. Joe Root, like earlier, will lead up England’s test team, which is all set to take on Pakistan in the first test match at Lord’s next week.

Jos Buttler has been in superb form with the bat for his team Rajasthan Royals. He recently became the only player after Virender Sehwag to score 5 consecutive half-centuries in the history of the IPL. Although his team Rajasthan Royals will surely miss him badly as the wicket-keeper batsman has to join his national test team for the first test match against Pakistan at Lord’s, starting next week.

National selector Ed Smith believes Buttler will take forward his IPL form in the test he is going to play against Pakistan next week.
