The camp of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018 was simply different from the rest of the other teams. The team was led brilliantly by Captain cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni who brought the best out of all of his players. Making a comeback after 2 years, Chennai Super Kings went all the way and won their 3rd IPL title.

Chennai Super Kings were also different in their whole approach to the tournament. Where other teams and coaching staff were discussing heavily on how to adapt as per each game, in CSK  players were told to ‘just enjoy themselves’. The level of comfort in the team was such brilliant that according to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the team meeting before the final of the IPL 2018 lasted for only 5 seconds.

The meeting before the final lasted only 5 seconds, says MS Dhoni

As per quotes in Times of India, CSK captain MS Dhoni revealed the whole environment in the entire CSK camp was brilliant. “I think at that point of time, we were quite relaxed about how we’d conducted ourselves throughout the tournament. And everybody’s role and responsibilities were very clear. So, you need to address something if it really needs to be addressed. You know, there’s no point, just because if there is a captain and a coach of the team, you’ve to say something. The team meeting that we had, lasted hardly five seconds. (Stephen) Fleming was like: ‘Go, get it boys’, And it got over”, says Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni further added that although there were meetings in the team but there was no pressure by the owners on the batting or bowling coaches. “Yes, we have had the bowlers’ meetings, the batters’ meeting, and I don’t become a part of the batters’ meeting. A lot of times, people do it because they need to tick a box. And in CSK, there’s no justification that happens… you know that the bowling coach doesn’t need to justify to the owners”, further quotes Dhoni.

The team of Chennai Super Kings was trolled for picking senior and aged players in the IPL auction. However, as the series of events took place, it was these ‘so-called senior players’ brought glory to the team. Players like Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu played brilliantly throughout the tournament. Shan Watson scored a blistering century in the final of the IPL 2018 that took his team to IPL glory.
