Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has extended his stay with English County club, Sussex. As per the new contract extension, Rashid Khan will be available for the all the 14 group stage games for the county club in the T20 Blast competition.
Rashid Khan is the No. 1 ranked T20I spinner and had earlier signed up for only the first half of Sussex’s South Group matches. Now, as the 19-year-old bowler has taken the decision to withdraw himself from the Caribbean Premier League, which has ensured that he will remain available for the remainder of the eight group games for Sussex, including the one against Gloucestershire on Wednesday.
Rashid Khan expresses his delight
As per reports in Cricbuzz, Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan says he is looking forward to the rest of the matches with Sussex. “I had always wanted to play more than the first seven games so when I heard I was now going to be free, I asked the club straightaway if they would like me to stay for the full 14 matches. Thankfully, they also wanted me to stay. I’m really enjoying my time at Sussex so far and I’m looking forward to the rest of the matches here. Let’s hope we can win many of them”, says Rashid Khan.
Sussex head coach Jason Gillespie also shares his excitement over the continued presence of Rashid Khan. “I’m very big on continuity when it comes to tournaments and, as a general rule, I prefer not to have players dropping in for a few games. Having said that, Rashid is the number one T20 bowler in the world and so having him in the team for any number of games would have added value – as we have already seen – but to now have him available for the whole of the group stage is absolutely wonderful”, says Jason Gillespie.
Rashid Khan is one of the influential bowlers in the game of cricket today. He has proved himself for the national team recently when Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in the 3-match T20I series. Apart from that, he has been outstanding in Australia’s T20 tournament Big Bash League and India’s Indian Premier League.
