A big injury update is coming from one of the top most T20 club tournament in the cricketing world, the Big Bash League season 6. Sydney Thunder’s champion all rounder from Caribbean Andre Russell has suffered a hamstring injury in the recently concluded league match between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars.
When fielding at the boundary lines in this match, Russell was at third man fence and was trying to save a boundary when he injured his left hamstring very badly. It was so bad that the ground staff carried him on the stretcher. Somewhat similar to his countryman Dwayne Bravo of Melbourne Renegades.
The 29 year old lad from West Indies was already having some issues with his knee injury. He was supposed to be out of the playing eleven for this match because of a possible surgery undergoing to solve this issue but he was selected in the team. More drama to this selection when it popped out to be an admin error.
Although he was having a poor tournament so far, he is still an exciting aspect when it comes to the shortest format of the game. He has batted in four innings so far in the BBL06 but didn’t even once made a double digit score. His bowling figures add more misery to his performance as he has taken only 3 wickets in 5 matches so far this season.
Sydney Thunder captain Ben Rohrer said, “They were a little bit conditions-based and there was a little admin error as well that doesn’t help with Andre being 50-50 for the game with his injury from last game. We sort of stuffed up our line-up which isn’t ideal.”
English limited overs captain Eoin Morgan has left Thunder and travelling to India for his side’s limited overs tour over there. Another English batsman James Vince has joined the side as his replacement for the rest of the season. If that admin error hadn’t been occurred, Vince would have played the match against Stars. u wish Russell a speedy recovery.
