The 38-year old Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra is the latest talk of the town after the veteran spearhead was recalled into the T20 side. Nehra has kept himself at the top of his fitness despite going through a plethora of injuries and the left-handed fast bowler wants to play for another couple of years if his body lets him.

It is never easy for a fast bowler to be playing at the age of 38 and Nehra deserves all the appreciation for keeping himself in shape. Nehra spends a lot of time in the gym even if he is not playing International cricket for India and that is his secret of fitness.

Nehra has been asking questions from his body

Nehra said while talking to ESPN Cricinfo that he looks to play for another couple of years and is aware of the fact that it is not going to be easy. Nehra is giving his all to retain his fitness and wants to be in the thick of the action.

Ashish Nehra said, “The only one thing that is not happy that I am still playing is my body. I can play for another couple of years but it isn’t easy for a fast bowler at 38-39, especially considering the state of my body. But I am just trying my level best. When you are young you don’t understand these things, you don’t understand the value of playing for India”.

Nehra had to miss out on a lot of action when he was injured and had to sit out for 5-6 years. Nehra added that his body has let him down and he is pushing himself to the limits.

Nehra added, “In the last 7-8 years I missed so much cricket, maybe you can say I am trying to catch that up. You can never go back, but for the last 4-5 years I am pushing myself and I am getting the results. My body has let me down, that’s why I am so upset with my body at times. I am a firm believer that if my body is okay I can still play and deliver. That’s why I am always aware of my body”.

Ashish Nehra is showing that Age is just a number and it is commendable that he has kept himself at the top of his fitness at this age. Nehra has shown his passion to play for the country and he deserves a lot of credit. The first T20 will be played at Ranchi tomorrow and Nehra would be raring to go.
