Australian fast bowler Jackson Bird has been ruled out of the Australian test team for the upcoming tour of South Africa. Jackson Bird has suffered a hamstring injury in the domestic match in Sheffield Shield clash in Brisbane and the injury will keep out of action for three weeks.

This has made Australian selectors to include uncapped Chadd Sayers to replace Jackson Bird. Chadd Sayers was the highest wicket-taker in Australia’s Sheffield Shield last season where he took 62 wickets. Chadd Sayers’ call to National team for the South African team means he will get a chance to meet his role model, South African bowler Vernon Philander.

It is disappointing to lose Jackson Bird, says Steve Smith

As quoted by AFP, Australian Skipper Steve Smith has shown disappointed after Jackson Bird’s injury. “It’s disappointing for Jackson, but it is exciting for Chadd at the same time. It’s kind of a like for like sort of bowler, they’re pretty similar. They both stand the seam up nicely and Chadd’s been rewarded for what he has done in Shield cricket over the last couple of years, which is great”, said Steve Smith.

Steve Smith also showed his enthusiasm for Chadd Sayers. “He’s a difficult one to face because he is so short not many balls go over the stumps, which makes him a pretty handy proposition when the ball is seaming around. I think it is a good selection”, further added Smith.

The tour of South Africa will see two best pace attacks in the World take on each other. South Africa has the arsenal that consists of Kagiso Rabada, Vernon Philander, Lungi Ngidi and Morne Morkel, the return of Dale Steyn will further sharpen their pace attack, whereas Australia has fast bowlers like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Chadd Sayers. More importantly, they also have an excellent spinner in Nathan Lyon.

Here is the full Australian squad
