In one of those beneficial ideas, the Board of Control for Cricket in India came up with a new idea of adding 4 extra fast bowlers to travel alongside already announced 17-member squad. The latest development came after team management requesting the respective board to supply four extra bowlers.
The idea of adding 4 bowlers will certainly bring a world of good for Indian cricket as it will help Indian batsmen to face a different type of fast bowlers in the Net session which ultimately helps while tackling the South African pace battery who have the likes of Steyn, Rabada, Morkel and Philander.
It is learnt that the four bowlers who are set to travel South Africa are Mohammed Siraj from Hyderabad, Avesh Khan from Madhya Pradesh, Basil Thampi from Kerala and Navdeep Saini from Delhi. The latest idea will also help the youngsters to rub their shoulders with the seniors in the side.
Apart from the latest additions, India has the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Hardik Pandya to roll their arms in the South African conditions. However, the latest recruits are currently involved in Ranji season while Siraj and Thampi are named in the T20I squad against Sri Lanka.
“It will serve a double purpose. The young pacers will learn a lot by travelling with the team and bowling to international batsmen. It will also reduce the workload of our pacers in the nets. The request is to keep them for at least three weeks,” a source aware of developments told the Bangalore Mirror.
India are currently involved in the limited overs series against Sri Lanka. The visitors, Sri Lanka are leading with a margin of 1-0 in the 3-match ODI series after sealing a comfortable victory at Dharamsala.
