Australia are currently taking on England in their first match of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy at Pakistan’s Gaddafi Stadium and they have kicked off with a bang. Despite playing without their veteran players, the Aussies have not struggled one bit in the match so far. On the contrary, they have marked their entry into the tournament with the exceptional flair and dominance that they are usually known for.

The Australians won the toss and took no time to opt to bowl first. It was an unexpected decision as Gaddafi Stadium’s pitch generally favors the team batting first. In fact, out of the last five matches played here, the team batting first won thrice. However, the Invincibles seemed confident in their decision and they proved that quickly.
Watch Alex Carey’s sensational catch
Alex Carey stunned the world with the spectacular catch that he took off of Ben Dwarshuis’ delivery to dismiss Phil Salt. The English batsman had played it on middle and leg and there was an inward shape to the shot. Alex Carey, standing just inside the 30-yard circle, flew upward on his right to take the catch with his right hand and he did not leave the ball even after taking the fall on his elbow. The 33-year-old made the phenomenal catch look to damn easy. Definitely the catch of the tournament without a doubt, unless someone else defies the laws of physics to better even this.

The Australian took another catch moments after this to dismiss Jamie Smith, once again off of Ben Dwarshuis’ delivery. This shows how good of a fielder Alex Carey is.

However, Joe Root and Ben Duckett then came in to take the reins of England’s innings and have performed brilliantly so far. This partnership might cause a lot of trouble for the Australians as they are continuously scoring runs at a run rate of almost 6.67.
