Cricketers who represented U-19 cricket for one country and debuted for other country:

1). Andy Caddick (1988): He appeared 3 times for New Zealand Young Cricketers, all of his appearances coming in February 1988. His performance was unremarkable in the first ODI against the touring India Under-19 team.However, after struggling with 0/39 in McDonald’s Bicentennial Youth World Cup he lost his place, and did not appear for New Zealand again.

Frustration at what he saw as a lack of opportunities to be selected for the New Zealand Test side drove him to try his luck in England.

He made his ODI Debut for England in the year 1993 vs Australia.

2). Imran Tahir (1998): While Tahir has represented Pakistan Under-19 cricket team’s and Pakistan A, he failed to win full international honours for Pakistan. Tahir is married to Sumayya Dildar, a South African of Indian descent, and has represented South Africa after becoming eligible to play for them when he met his four-year residence requirement in April 2009.

Tahir made his ODI debut for South Africa in the year 2011 vs West Indies.

3). Grant Elliott (1998): He debuted at Gauteng in 1996–97, where on the advice of his captain, former New Zealand test skipper Ken Rutherford, who saw the quota system possibly blocking his path to higher honours, Elliott left his native Johannesburg for New Zealand in 2001. He played one match for South Africa ‘A’ against India ‘A’ before he qualified to play for New Zealand in 2007.

He made his ODI debut for New Zealand in the year 2008 vs England.

4).  Michael Lumb (1998): The son of prolific Yorkshire opener Richard Lumb, Michael Lumb was born in South Africa.Lumb made his way through the junior teams in Transvaal before returning to his roots to play for Yorkshire.

Lumb made his debut for England in the year 2010 in a t-20 match vs West Indies.

5). Tim Murtagh (2000): Born and raised in England, Murtagh is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler; he represented England in the 2000 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.He first played for Ireland in the year 2012.

6). Jonathan Trot (2000): He played for South Africa at both under-15 and under-19 level.Although he played for South Africa, Trott is eligible to play for England as a result of his grand parents being English. Following a good season in 2007 he was selected in June 2007 for England’s one day squad for the series against the West Indies.

7). Peter Borren (2002): He played in the Under 19 World Cup in 2002 when he represented his native New Zealand alongside Ross Taylor and Jesse Ryder.He made his debut with the Netherlands national cricket team in a One Day International against Sri Lanka on 4 July 2006, and is currently its captain. He also previously played for the Netherlands A team and Under-23 team.

8). Tom Cooper (2006): The right-handed middle order batsman and a right-arm off-spinner, has represented Australia Under-19’s.Cooper first played for South Australia in a Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia at Adelaide Oval.He made his One Day International debut for the Netherlands in a match against Scotland.

9). Craig Kieswetter (2006): He represented South Africa in the 2006 Under-19s World Cup in Sri Lanka and Kieswetter repeated his desire to play international cricket for England and, he debuted for England team in the year 2010 in a Odi match vs Bangladesh.

10). Gary Ballance (2006): He made five appearances for Zimbabwe in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup.After representing Zimbabwe in cricket at various age levels, he moved to England in 2006 and debuted for England against Ireland, in Dublin, on 3 September 2013.
