India’s National Anthem Plays in ENG vs AUS: It’s been only four days since the commencement of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, and it has already been subject to a plethora of controversies. Arguably the biggest of them all took place ahead of the fourth match of the tournament between England and Australia and it turned a lot of heads and will surely be the talk of the hour for quite some time now.
It is not unknown that in ICC tournaments, the national anthems of the two competing teams in a match are played right before the match begins. In an unexpected turn of events, instead of England’s national anthem, the audio team played India’s national anthem for a second. It was then stopped instantly and England’s national anthem was played. When India’s anthem was playing for a second, a fraction of the crowd cheered momentarily. The national anthem of any country is a matter of great pride and the situation is thus extremely sensitive.

To add to the seriousness of the issue, it was played in Pakistan, a country with decades of extreme political differences from India. India and Pakistan are considered to be archrivals—both politically and on the field. This makes it even worse.
Even from a tournament point of view, it doesn’t look good for Pakistan. Despite the Champions Trophy being hosted by Pakistan, India’s matches will be played in Dubai as the Indian government did not sanction the Indian National Cricket team to play in Pakistan due to the political divide between the two nations.
Moreover, PCB recently filed a formal request to the ICC, asking the reason as to why Pakistan’s name was now shown in the broadcast logo during the match between India vs Bangladesh. Although an ICC spokesperson explained that it was just a technical glitch, everything is seemingly going wrong for Pakistan in the ongoing Champions Trophy
