Sunrisers Hyderabad have delivered just what was expected of them in their first match of the 2025 Indian Premier League and have set the tone of the season. With a total of 286 runs against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium, they have set the record for the second highest total ever in the history of the tournament, breaking their own record of 277 runs against Mumbai Indians last season.
At the helm of their batting performance was Ishan Kishan who seems to be in full revenge mode. Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for 11.25 crores this season. Ishan began his IPL career with the Gujarat Lions back in 2016. Mumbai Indians had then acquired him in 2018 and it was with them that he grew as a star T20 player. However, the Indians seemingly lost their faith on him this season and they let him go pretty cheaply.
However, it’s not just Mumbai Indians that Ishan Kishan has to take his so called revenge against. Recently, the BCCI dropped Ishan Kishan from the central contract and he was not called up for the National team – neither in T20I nor in ODI. He thus has to show the selectors what he is capable of and he did exactly that in the first match of IPL 2025.
Ishan scored an unbeaten 106 runs in 47 deliveries at a stunning strike rate of 225.53. After Abhishek Sharma’s early dismissal, it seemed like Rajasthan Royals will restrict SRH to a 200ish score but Ishan Kishan’s heroics broke their dreams and they reached the humongous total of 286.

After scoring the century, Ishan Kishan celebrated in glorious fashion. It made absolute sense given the situation he has gone through with his past franchise and the BCCI contract termination in the recent past. It’s a tight slap on the face of his doubters and he is just getting started.
