The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been off to a sensational start in the 2025 Women’s Premier League. They have won both of their first two matches and it currently looks like their third match against the Mumbai Indians, which is currently being played at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium, will have the same fate.
Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to field first. The visitors even got a good start after sending off Smriti Mandhana for just 26 runs but the partnership between Elyse Perry then came in and took the reins of the inning single handedly. Even after Shabnim Ismail took the big wicket of Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Ellyse Perry went on to score 81 off 43 and made sure that RCB reached a defendable total of 167.

The Australian batter had a phenomenal knock in which she hit 2 sixes and 11 fours. On the second delivery of the fifth over, she hit a particularly massive six against Sciver-Brunt, stunning her in the process. Perry had just scored 5 runs back then and shots like this definitely help in building a batter’s confidence, especially at the beginning of the knock. That was exactly what happened with the Australian.
Although Amanjot Kaur later got her big wicket, it was too late by then, and Ellyse Perry had done her job by then. Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh also played well and her responsible 28 off 25 helped RCB make the extra bit of runs.
RCB has done phenomenally well in the first two matches so far and sits comfortably at the top of the table. The defending champions are once again the favorites to lift the trophy this season and they look pretty serious about their campaign. Winning back-to-back WPL trophies will be a major achievement for Smriti Mandhana and co. and that is what they are going for.
