The ICC cricket World Cup 2023 has begun with lots of pomp and show and has already drawn the attention of everyone by loads of surprises. The Indian team has been absolutely sensational with its brilliant performances as the hosts are currently at the top of the table.
Much to the delight of the Indian fans, the star players of the Indian team have been absolutely at the top of their game recently. The senior players have delivered quality performances and leading the top performers is none other than Virat Kohli, the man who smashed a fantastic century vs Bangladesh.
The match was an easy one for India as they were off to a fine start in their run chase after being set a target of just 257 by Bangladesh. Virat Kohli who was keenly waiting in the dugout for his turn to come finally got an opportunity to arrive following the dismissal of Rohit Sharma in the 13th over for 48.
The king announced his arrival in style as he smashed a boundary of a no ball on only his second ball and followed it up with a big six of yet another no ball. He stood strong despite the departure of Shubhman Gill and Shreyash Iyer.
KL Rahul who came to the crease at no.5 did well to build a partnership along with Kohli. At one point with 26 runs remaining and Kohli batting at 74 it seemed unlikely that the batter would get to his hundred. However Kohli began smashing boundaries almost instantly and began closing in on his hundred.
He got able support from Rahul at other end who kept denying the singles and stayed at the non striker’s end completely so that Kohli could get to his hundred. Virat eventually brought up his hundred off a six in the 3rd ball of the 42nd over. He brought up his 48th ODI ton in style, an innings that included 6 fours and 4 sixes.
Twitteratis reacted to the game and Kohli’s century in particular with great enthusiasm. They hailed the brilliance of Kohli on the cricket pitch yet again as he brought up his third World Cup century. KL Rahul too got lots of praise for the amazing sportsman spirit that he showed while staying stranded at the non striker’s end so as to assist Kohli to get his personal milestone. India following this win are at the second spot in the table with 8 points in 4 games. They’ll next be facing table topers New Zealand on 22nd of October at Dharmashala.
