AB De Villiers will forever be remembered as one of the most explosive batters in the history of cricket for a reason. Many cricket fans have the South African as their favourite batter of all time due to the sass and style in which he played. On this day a few years back, he played a similar knock which will be remembered in years to come.
The match was between South Africa and West Indies and the stage was as big as it gets – the 2015 ODI World Cup. The match was being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground. South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first.
The Proteas had been playing well right from the get-go and it was clear that it was going to be a high scoring match. However, little did people expect that AB de Villiers was going to play a knock that would be remembered for ages.
He came in to bat when South Africa were 146-3, in the 30th over. Mr. 360 degree ended up scoring an unbeaten 162 runs in just 66 deliveries, i.e, more runs individually than South Africa had scored in total before he came in to bat. Thanks to his antics, the Proteas were able to score an unbelievable total of 408 runs.
De Villiers hit 8 sixes and 17 fours in his knock and entertained the masses fully. In fact, it was hands down the most explosive knock of the entire tournament without a doubt.
South Africa proceeded to pick all or West Indies’ wickets for just 151 runs and won the match by a humongous margin which helped in their net run rate as well.
