One of the highlights of the tenth season of the IPL was the super over from Jasprit Bumrah against Gujarat Lions. Even after bowling a no-ball and a wide, he was able to restrict the likes of Aaron Finch and Brendon McCullum.
Bumrah kept his good form in the all-important final as well and he needed to do that because his team was defending a small target and they wanted him to take the responsibility. He grabbed it with both his hands and once again delivered for Mumbai Indians as he gave only 26 runs in his quota of 4 overs and picked up 2 wickets which included the imperative dismissal of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has praised Bumrah for his efforts and he doesn’t want to put pressure on the young lad as he said in a press conference in Mumbai, “I would prefer not to say that he is the world’s best T20 bowler because, right now, he is doing a great job. I would like him to continue to do well. All those things when he sees will only add pressure on him. I don’t want to say anything,”.
Rohit also added that Bumrah knows his capabilities and he backs them as he said, “He knows what his capabilities are. He has shown it throughout the tournament when he came to bowl the Super Over to probably the best T20 batters in Aaron Finch and Brendon McCullum. He has got all the abilities to be No. 1 bowler in the world, for sure,”.
Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond said that Bumrah ability to bowl yorkers at will makes the captain trust him in the pressure situations as he, “He has always been put under pressure in our team to bowl the pressure overs because he has got the skills and the temperament to do it. And I think he has done it both for Mumbai and for India,”.
The former Kiwi’s bowler believes that Bumrah will soon represent India in the longer format of the game as he added, “I think he will definitely play Test cricket and be a world class bowler across all formats,”.
Bumrah picked up 20 wickets in 16 matches of the IPL and has been a great prospect for Mumbai Indians for some time now. India will hope that he continues his good form in the upcoming Champions Trophy as well.
