As the youngsters are stepping up for Rising Pune Supergiant, the team has done a commendable job in reaching the finals of the tournament especially after they lost the first three matches of the four they played. One such young lad is their medium fast bowler, Jaydev Unadkat who has grabbed the opportunity with both his hands.
Unadkat has been exceptional for Supergiant as he has picked up 22 wickets for his team in the 11 matches he has played and finds himself just behind the purple cap holder Bhuvneshwar Kumar who has 26 wickets.
His best spell (5-30) came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad which helped Pune defend a below par score of 148. That spell also included a hat-trick. He has been bowling beautifully as he is disguising the batsmen with his change of pace and is rolling his fingers intelligently.
Unadkat told Times of India that he was assisted by former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram and his guidance has helped him improve as a bowler. Unadkat said, “I was too star struck by Akram. But I did manage to learn the art of swing bowling from him. I also learnt different ways of gripping the ball which I was not aware of. I have come a long way but the lessons with Akram taught me the basics of bowling,”. A Long time back, Wasim Akram was also appreciated for giving his valuable tips to Irfan Pathan.
The left arm pacer added that both Smith and Dhoni gave him the field he wants and they know his strengths as he said, “Both Smith and Dhoni Bhai know my strengths so well that they set the fields most of the time. These two guys work in tandem. If one is handling the bowlers, other instructs the fielders. In the end, I am only focused on my bowling,”.
Unadkat has been brilliant for RPS in this season and the team management will hope that he continues his good performance in the final against the Mumbai Indians against whom they have completed a hat-trick of wins. RPS will take on two-time champions Mumbai Indians tomorrow in Hyderabad.
