Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Delhi Daredevils by 4 wickets in a thrilling encounter at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi. Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan partnership laid the foundation for the victory. Pandey played a match-winning knock as things got tight at the end to ensure that KKR goes at the top of the table with 8 points.
Daredevils won the toss and elected to bat. Sanju Samson and Sam Billings got off to a flying start putting on 53 runs for the first wicket. The partnership was broken by Nathan Coulter-Nile who dismissed Sam Billings for 21. Sanju Samson was dismissed for 39 runs in 25 balls.
Shreyas Iyer and Karun Nair steadied the innings with 43 runs stand for the 3rd wicket. When things were looking bright, Daredevils lost wickets at regular intervals. Rishabh Pant played a quickfire knock 38 in 16 balls to help DD post a competitive total of 168 for 7 in 20 overs.
Chasing Delhi Daredevils target of 169, Kolkata Knight Riders promoted Collin de Grandhomme to the opening slot with Gautam Gambhir. Zaheer Khan and Pat Cummins got the first the wickets of Grandhomme and Robin Uthappa. DD captain Zaheer Khan made another breakthrough taking the wicket of Gautam Gambhir.
Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan steadied the innings with 110 runs partnership for the fourth wicket. The hard-hitting batsman Pathan scored 59 runs. With 16 runs required off 12 balls, Chris Morris bowled an exceptional 19th over giving away just 7 runs.
Manish Pandey smashed Amit Mishra for a six off the fourth ball to reduce pressure on KKR team. He hit the winning runs to remain not out on 69 to help the visitors win the match by 4 wickets and 1 ball to spare.
