Gujarat Titans registered an important victory against Punjab Kings at the PCA Stadium tonight. They ousted the home side by 6 wickets with a ball remaining and with this win, they are currently third on the points table.
They have 6 points in 4 matches, i.e, the same as first placed Rajasthan Royals and second placed Lucknow Super Giants.
Gujarat Titans won the toss and opted to bowl first in today’s match. Punjab Kings ended up setting a target of 154 in the first innings. Coming in to defend, Gujarat Titans were off to a great start, thanks to their two openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha.
It was Shubman Gill in particular whose stellar 67 runs off 49 runs partnership gave Gujarat Titans the solid base from where they went on to win the match.
In fact, he was the highest scorer in today’s match by a mile. He played a number of sensational shots in his knock which will definitely make it to the highlight reel.
Shubman Gill was on the pitch till the very last over until he was dismissed by PBKS’ marquee player Sam Curran.
The all-rounder bowled the opener on the second delivery of the final over when GT still needed 6 runs to win off 5 deliveries and this resulted in a thrilling end to the match that seemed to have a one-sided outcome from the start of the second innings.
Fortunately enough, Rahul Tewatia, who came in to replace Gill, handled the pressure well and finished the match off for GT scoring 5 runs in two deliveries.
