Cricket is common between India and Sri Lanka:

Cricket is treated as a religion by the enthusiasts. Does it matter who the opponents are if one is fighting out for a win? The one who plays better cricket wins on the day and it’s not always about the domination by one team. According to Central Jail Superintendent, the Lankan prison officials are the first to elicit the idea of initiating the cricket matches.

“Cricket is a common factor between India and Sri Lanka. The Lankan prison officials have conveyed us the idea of conducting the cricket matches,” Poojappura Central Jail Superintendent S Santhosh told PTI.

It’s all up to the state government to grant access to the cricket match. “If everything goes as planned, one match will be held between the Kerala prisoners and the Lankan prison officials. The next will be between the jail officials of Kerala and Sri Lanka,” he said.

S Santhosh told that they don’t have the authority to host such a cricket game. First of all, the groundwork has to be completed like spotting out the talents. Once that’s done, then they would set up a camp for the prisoners to proceed with further tasks and operations.

“We do not have the precedence of conducting such a cricket match. So, we have to identify potential talents. We are planning to organise a camp for prisoners at the open prison at Nettukaltheri near here,” he said.

The Greenfield international stadium in Thiruvananthapuram is considered to be the main venue as of now with all plans put into place. If that move is not panning out then there might choose some other ground. “Otherwise, we may choose, Medical College cricket ground here or the one at Vellayani Agriculture college or St Xavier’s College,” he said.
