As per the reports, India’s premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been rested for the ODI series against Sri Lanka but at the same time, he has also signed to play County Cricket for Worcestershire. How can a player be rested if he is playing County Cricket?Recently, Gautam Gambhir had also requested the selectors to convey the right messages to a player.

Yuvraj Singh was not selected in the Indian team squad and chairman of selectors, MSK Prasad had said that the southpaw has been rested despite the fact he hasn’t played for a while. India’s off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is not sure whether Ravichandran Ashwin is being dropped or rested for the Sri Lankan One-Day Internationals series.

Dropped or Rested?

Ashwin has been a king bowler of longest format of the game but when it comes to One-Day Cricket, Ashwin doesn’t seem to possess the same prowess. He is not guaranteed a spot in the playing XI as his performances in white ball cricket are not up to the standards.

Harbhajan said while talking to India Today, “I am not sure if R Ashwin has been rested or dropped. We have seen reports that Ashwin has been rested but at the same time in his rest period, he is going to England to play county cricket. So I don’t know what kind of rest it is going to be. I am not sure whether he has been rested or dropped”.

Dada believes Kuldeep Yadav will be India’s trump card

Former skipper Sourav Ganguly also thinks on the same ground as Harbhajan Singh and he believes that the mystery chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav will be India’s frontline spinner for the crucial foreign tours like South Africa, England, and Australia.

Ganguly said in an exclusive chat with India Today, “I have a feeling that Kuldeep Yadav is slowly going to get into the ODI side as a frontline spinner, especially on pitches which do not respond to the spinners when they go to South Africa, England, and Australia and considering they are going to play the World Cup in England”.

There is no denying the fact that Ashwin performance in the limited overs format is worth questioning. It was a surprise to see Kuldeep Yadav not getting a place in the playing XI in the first ODI against Sri Lanka, but as Indian skipper Virat Kohli hinted that there will be surprises to follow in the series, there is a high likelihood that Yadav will be given his opportunity soon.
