One of the finest Indian cricket team test batsmen at the moment, Cheteshwar Pujara has given a huge part of credit of his batting improvements in recent times to the Indian cricket team legend and ‘The Wall’ Rahul Dravid. Pujara right now is arguably the best number three batsman for India when it comes to longer format of the game.
Pujara has had a sensational test career so far. Though he is in somewhat early days of his career, he has already amassed 15 half tons and 13 big hundreds to his name. He scored centuries in both the test matches against Sri Lanka in the ongoing test series. His scores were 153 and 133 respectively. He has 4099 runs to his name in tests.
“When I was dropped from the Indian team for the Australian Test series, I think it was the last match of the series, but then I told myself that the best thing is to make a comeback, work harder on your game and I would like to thank Rahul Dravid because, after the Australia series, I was part of the India A side,” Pujara said to Harsha Bhogle on a Cricbuzz interview.
“Rahul bhai was the coach at that time and I went up and spoke to him about my game. He told me that there is nothing wrong with your game and technique because he kept a close eye on me in the nets, he told me that you just need to stay calm, just keep working harder on your game, keep doing what you have been doing and you will get your opportunity and I trusted him, initially it was tough as I didn’t know when I will get my opportunity but it did come. If there is something wrong with my technique he will try to guide me,” Pujara added.
In the ongoing third test match against Sri Lanka, Pujara failed to capitalize in the batting department. Conditions were easy and there was no pressure on him at all so he lost a golden opportunity. So the main aim for him will be to score big in the second innings which will be his last chance for a while as India is not having any test series in next few months.
