New Zealand won the T20I against England in the ongoing T20I tri-series against England in Wellington, New Zealand. This is the first victory for New Zealand in the series after losing their first game against Australia by 7 wickets on 3rd February in Sydney.

As England Captain Eoin Morgan was missing all due to the injury, Jos Butler was the stand-in Skipper and decided to bowl first after winning the toss. England removed Colin Munro in the 5th over of the match as he got out for 11 runs off the bowling of Mark Wood. Opener Martin Guptill was then joined by Captain Kane Williamson and the pair added 82 runs for the second wicket and that too with the blistering strike-rate.

Rashid almost brought England back in the Match

When Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson start to look threatening, England bowler Adil Rashid got the better of Martin Guptill. England couldn’t ask for a better comeback as Colin de Grandhomme too got out the very next ball by an extraordinary catch taken by Chris Jordan at long-off. But Williamson kept scoreboard going and was accompanied by Mark Chapman who added valuable 20 runs in just 13 balls.Tim Seifert’s 20 runs in the lower order took the total to 196 runs.

England kept losing wickets regularly

In the chase of 197, England did not begin well and Jason Roy got out in the 3rd over. Opener Alex Hales and David Malan then had a valuable partnership of 65 runs and just when England started to look more confident, Hales was removed by Sodhi. After this England couldn’t build up a partnership and the regular falls of wickets kept England far from victory. In the end, New Zealand won the match by 12 runs.

New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson was awarded Man of the Match for his knock of 72 runs.
