Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has been an integral part of the Kings XI Punjab since the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Last year, after he bid adieu from the gentleman’s game, he decided to mentor the side and he suggested youngsters should be given an opportunity.
Few media sources have recently reported that Sanjay Bangar, the head coach of Kings XI Punjab has had an argument with the owner of the side Preity Zinta, which might result in his omission from the side.
If this is true, reports suggest Virender Sehwag will be the first choice for Kings XI Punjab’s management to take up the coaching responsibility. Though not many understand the strategic difference between a coach and mentor, its pretty obvious that the coaching job is tad more hectic than the latter.
Some decision made by Sanjay Bangar didn’t bring out the best of results, which made Miss Preity Zinta a bit furious(apparently). David Miller, the South African dashing batsman who came into limelight via IPL, played a crucial role for the team in the last few seasons.
Yet, when he appointed as the captain last season, things didn’t go according to the way Bangar must have planned. It was indeed an audacious move to make an inexperienced player the captain of the side and he himself contradicted his move by giving the captaincy to Indian opener Murali Vijay mid way through the tournament.
With an all new side in 2014, Kings XI Punjab were the side to beat under the leadership of George Bailey. They finished first in the league standings and lost in the finals to Kolkata Knight Riders ina nail biting thriller at Bangalore.
Post then, their form has dipper quite substantially, forcing the team management to make several changes in the side, which in no way helped the cause. Yet, in IPL 10, they are eager to pull of some good performances and it is quite certain if Virender Sehwag is in the dressing room, he will leave no stone unturned as far as the off-field decision making is concerned.
