19 runs separated West Indies and the ICC World T20 trophy. Ben Stokes was gearing up to bowl the final over. Carlos Brathwaite was the man on strike for West Indies. An inform Marlon Samuels batting on 85, was on the other end and many would have suggested Brathwaite to hand over the strike to him.

But what happened in the next few minutes was simply scintillating, mind boggling and heartbreaking on the flip side.

In one of the greatest T20 games of all time, England batted first and posted 155 runs on the board despite of a poor start. Joe Root and Jos Buttler chipped in with crucial contributions for England.

It was a competitive total on the board and West Indies were off to a disastrous start courtesy some mastermind tactics from England skipper Eoin Morgan. He gave the ball to Root in the second over and he removed Jhonson Charles and Chris Gayle in that one over he bowled.

Wickets kept tumbling but a warrior in Marlon Samuels kept the game alive. A crucial partnership with Dwayne Bravo just set the contest alive. Yet, England bounced back by picking up Bravo, Andre Russell and Darren Sammy in quick succession.

It just seemed as the killer blow for West Indies but in came the gigantic Carlos Brathwaite, who was yet to prove his worth with the bat. He stuck in there and gave great support to Samuels in the final few overs, but just 9 runs off the 19th over meant West Indies needed 19 runs off the final over. A blockbuster finale was about to finish and everyone were on the edge of their seats to witness the climax.

Brathwaite on strike, Stokes with the ball in hand. Brathwaite hit the first ball over deep backward square leg for a six, then followed it up with another over long-on. Stokes was shell-shocked and after a long delay, he ran in hard to get hit for another six over long-off.

It was unbelievable stuff from the Caribbean giant and it was fitting that he finished the game with another monstrous six over mid-wicket. These four sixes made him a national hero said the world, but frankly, he became a global superstar post that knock.

It was one of the most unbelievable finals you could ever witness and an absolutely stupendous knock from Marlos Samuels to go with Brathwaite’s heroics earned West Indies its second World T20 title. Here’s a short video of that full match, don’t quit without watching those 4 blows in the end! (Video Credits: ICC)
